A Day of Exploration and Celebration at Sexual Utopia Festival 2024

In case You Missed it (ICYMI), our annual festival is here!! This year's Sexual Utopia Festival is set to be a captivating and surreal experience, exploring the themes of Sex & Money. Our bilingual event (French and English) will feature diverse activities to cater to your wide range of interests—believe me! Here are 1000 reasons why…haha probably 10! But first, get a recap here!

  • Kickstart your day with self-care with a Movement Workshop that connects you with your body and senses. Come and move that summer bod! Yes, It is warm and breezy in Kenya, our international folks!

  • Engage in stimulating discussions at various panels. The "Sex & Money” panel will examine the interplay of these powerful forces in relationships, culture, and identity. This panel features the renowned, journalist, author, editor, columnist, podcaster, MC, and all-around creative dynamo! Abigail Arunga who moderates; Jetsetting Jasmine a licensed clinical therapist and award-winning adult film entertainer, Tabitha Griffiths a kiosk operator, and angry feminist, and Olivia Shola a dedicated queer feminist and trans activist from Benin, and a powerhouse in human rights advocacy. This formidable lot asks: "What does money have to do with sexuality?” Can money help us access sexual freedom and pleasure?" And on a wider scale, does the fact that our countries are broke and constantly borrowing money affect our access to sexual and reproductive health services? Come to this panel with plenty of opinions to share with all of us!

  • Immerse yourself in the arts with a ‘Live Art and Theatre Performance that involves a live reading from "The Sex Lives of African Women,"  authored by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah and narrated by the seasoned actor director, and producer extraordinaire Nice Githinji, who will be accompanied by incredible visual artist, feminist and PanAfricanist Sukuma Wiki for a live art session. Wanna know what? make sure you are there to see!

  • Chanceline Mevowanou and Olivia Shola will coordinate the "Towards a Francophone Sexual Utopia,"session which will be the start of our journey towards Francophone Africa. Oh la la la la! This session will be for Francophones only, and led entirely in French.  Attendees should come ready to share the ideas they have for a Sexual Utopia festival in their respective countries.

  • The LBQ Women Gathering will provide a safe space for lesbian and bisexual CIS and Trans women to discuss experiences through a queer lens.  It will be facilitated by Dr Rita Nketiah a queer African feminist writer, researcher and activist alongside Fatima Derby, a queer African feminist writer, community organiser, and storyteller dedicated to the global liberation of African and Afro-descendant people. Queer folxs this is a must-attend!

  • "All the Feels: Men and Masculinities workshop," presented by All the Feels Space, will explore the complexities of masculinity in today's world. This workshop encourages participants to challenge stereotypes and construct a healthier understanding of what it means to be a man, particularly concerning sex and money. Nsharâh Feels aims to heal generational trauma in his community by fostering vulnerability, emotional openness, and self-awareness and will be holding the space alongside Kobina Ankomah Graham, a writer and lecturer. This workshop is targeted at male-identified people and will happen concurrently alongside other sessions.

  • The "Sex & Money: A Fireside Chat" will feature Rosemary Kasiba a feminist and social justice activist, with lived experience in sex work championing ‘sex work is work’, Mistress Shanta a BDSM practitioner, professional dominatrix, and kink/fetish educator, Brian ‘Wheels’ Muchiri a Disability advocate and content creator, The Vibrating Lawyer who quit law to sell pleasure toys, and Frankie Kibagendi a prominent advocate of Intersex Rights in Kenya.

  • Enjoy an amazing Burlesque performance from the BIRDIES of Birds of Paradise—a pole dance studio based in Kilifi and run and taught by Kaz, Co-Director of #AdventuresXTheSpread.

  • Experience the thrill of a surprise performance by a surprise artist as the main act of the night. Keep Your Eyes Peeled On Our Socials To Find Out!

  • Dance the night away with a live concert and a diverse afro-fusion DJ set.

  • Connect with others and explore various vendors at designated stations. Attendees will have the opportunity to peep in between the workshops happening at the same time as they move around and explore the pop-up market for art, fashion, food and more at the various stalls around the venue. Other stations running through the festival also include a Healing Corner, which will be held by Dr. Leyla Hussein, Jetsetting Jasmine, Kui, Asmae Belalia, and Julie Goko. Making a comeback for the second time in a row is—you guessed it -- our spanking booths. Would you dare try it?
